i'm singing now so shut up: news

Angustia available now! - April 17, 2016

Yes, it has finally happened - the new album, Angustia is now available for purchase at!  Spread the word...

and finally... - May 22, 2015

I'm glad to report that the surgery was a success and I am officially on the mend.  I graduate this afternoon and start work in the research lab where I'll be pursuing my doctorate next week.  Which is all good, but it also means I will have to retire from the music career officially, at least for a while.  I do still plan to release Angustia on CDBaby and iTunes, and when that goes live, I'll make sure to post about it!

Most important, thanks so much to everyone who has supported me throughout this endeavor, and especially my most recent ordeal.  I have so much love in my heart for each and every one of you - you made this more than possible, you made it fun.  I will miss you, and this...

...and who knows, I may be back.  Until then, peace -Mo

what's going on with Mo 2.0 - January 9, 2015

Well, it's been a very challenging year, lots of getting nowhere with doctors and other specialists, and a wholesale reset of my life priorities. Since I've been unable to play guitar since it happened, I've been channeling my creativity into a blog about my experience.  But there's hope on the horizon!  I'll be going in for surgery to try to repair/remove what's causing my shoulder pain and immobility on January 15.  Thoughts, warm fuzzies, and prayers continue to be very much appreciated.  It will be a couple of months at least before the outcome is certain, but as soon as I know something, I'll post it here.  peace, Mo

what's going on with Mo? - April 14, 2014

I've received so many messages of love and support from people over the last few weeks and I wanted to express my gratitude.  Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.  And especial thanks to those who have actual come over in person to lend a hand with tasks that require the lifting of heavy things!

Many have expressed an interest in being kept up-to-date on my condition, for which I have started a separate blog, which you can find here.

News on the electronic CD release will be forthcoming; right now, it looks as though that will happen at the end of next month, so plan for that!

Thanks again!  :-)

Tough year so far - March 31, 2014

Hey all!  First off, for those of you who know about the injury to my shoulder and the ongoing chronic pain issue associated with it, I very much appreciate all of the support, prayers, and well-wishes.  It's going slow, but it's going.

Second, since I am unable to perform, the CD Release party is going to have to wait a few months.  However, I promised you new music in March, so I've added two tracks from Angustia to the Music page.  Many of you will recognize "Strong Enough," but "Another Morning" is brand-new.  Enjoy!

I'M BACK - January 15, 2014

After having spent the Summer performing in a musical and finally finishing the new album, I can now provide a hard release date:  March 2014.  Yes.  For realsies.  I promise.  News about the CD Release Concert coming soon!

tracking? what tracking? - September 20, 2013

All right.  Officially, I have recorded all of the tracks for the new CD.  It's now up to my producer extraordinaire Blake Althen to make it sound like I actually know what I'm doing.  More news as it develops...

Mo where have you been - May 13, 2013

School school school school school.... BUT, finally, for the first time in over two years, I have the Summer off.  So I'm doing a musical with Aldersgate Theatre in Alexandria (more news on that later) and yes, I am finally finishing Angustia, which I hope to release this coming Winter.  Yay!

Chemistry - March 12, 2013

I hate it.  Officially.  With a visceral, encompassing loathing.

That is all.

Merry Happy - December 17, 2012

Hello all!  I'm so sorry I haven't been around - the internship at NIH this past semester officially squished any free time I might have had.  My family has sent out a search party.  My friends want to put me on a milk carton.  So I wanted to pop up and say "Hi" and "I love you" and Happy Holidays!  Be well.

Last 5 Years - July 31, 2012

Yes, the musical was supposed to go up next month, but my fellow actor in this two man show is injured, so it's been postponed indefinitely.  Thanks so much for all the love and support!

new stuff - April 2, 2012

Yes, the website has been updated, and yes, I have booked a show at the New Deal Cafe for Sunday, July 1st, so I expect you all to come one out and represent.  AND, we have dates and a location for The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown.  I'll be playing Cathy in the production that will be running at Flashpoint Mead Theatre Lab the first three weekends of August.  Is it Summer yet?  :-)

and the news is... - February 17, 2012

...that there is no news.  I'm up to my eyeballs in schoolwork and I just felt like making a journal entry.   :-)

New Deal Cafe Show this Sunday - January 17, 2012

Hi there!  Just a reminder about the New Deal show this coming Sunday, January 22nd from 5 - 8 PM.  As promised, I have a fantastic opening act - drum roll, please...

...and her name is Erin Umstead, up and coming singer/songwriter.  Once you hear her lovely voice and mature songwriting, I know you'll be a fan just like I am.  She just released her first EP "Norway" which you can check out at her website:  I'm so excited to have her open the show!

Details on the calendar page.  Hope to see you there!  :-)

happy new year & upcoming show - January 2, 2012

Hey there!  Happy New Year!

Well, the semester break is upon us, and as promised, I have a show lined up at the New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt for Sunday, January 22nd AND a new song uploaded to the website. Another one of the snow songs, "Supposed To Fly,"  has been professionally recorded and produced (Thank you, Blake Althen and Human Factor Productions) and uploaded for your listening and downloading pleasure (check the music page).

And about the show!  By now the New Deal Cafe needs no introduction - you know about the wonderful listening environment and fantastic Lebanese food.  In addition, I have a surprise guest artist who will be performing a set of their own original music.  But I can't give that all away in one news entry - you'll have to stay tuned!

Yep, the kind folks at the New Deal Cafe have offered to have me in there next SUNDAY, SEPT. 4th from 1:30 to 4:00 PM.  Same great venue, just a week later and a little earlier in the day!  :-)  One thing I should mention - this is the same weekend as the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival, so leave yourself and extra 30 minutes or so to park and walk a little further than usual.  I'm so excited that this show will go on - hope to see you there!  :-) -Mo

AUG 28TH SHOW CANCELLED - August 27, 2011

However, I'm in communication with the club right now as we work out a new date, probably for next weekend.  Please continue to check back for updates - and stay safe out there!  :-)

upcoming show in Greenbelt! - August 3, 2011

Hey there!  Just a reminder about my upcoming live performance at the New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt, MD on Sunday, August 28th from 5 to 8 PM. No cover, smoke-free, tips encouraged.  If you've never been to the NDC, come hungry because they serve amazing Lebanese food in addition to wine and beer.

The New Deal Cafe is one of the only local venues that specifically books independent original music acts, so please help me make this show as successful as possible for me and especially for them!  Details available here.  Even if you can't make it, you can help me promote - the downloadable flier below can be shared and put up on your own pages to help spread the word.  (If linking is an option, my website will be just fine  :-)  And encourage people to sample the free mp3's here on my website!

Morrigan at the New Deal Cafe 8.28.11!

gee, has it really been two months since I posted something? - June 30, 2011

Man, do I suck at this web presence thing or what?  Multi-tasking is definitely not my strong point.  BUT, as you may have heard, I have booked another gig, which definitely merits a post, since I haven't done any gigs since, like, January or something.  PLUS, it's at my favoritest venue in the whole wide world, The New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt.  Want to know more?  Go here.

In other news, I was stung by a paper wasp this afternoon.  I'd never seen one before.  I thought it was a firefly.  Oops.

new song! and more... - April 27, 2011

Yes, the rumors are true, I *did* hit the studio over Spring Break to record yet another of the [in]famous snow songs from last winter.  (At this rate, I should have all of them recorded by about 2013 or so... )  Many thanks to Human Factor Production's Blake Althen, award-winning international producer, for bringing his unparalleled special sauce to "It's So Easy," now available for download on the music page.

And for interested parties in the Northern Virginia area, THIS SATURDAY NIGHT (how's that for short notice?  :-)  I will be playing the March of Dimes Charity Open Mic at Caffe Amouri in Vienna, VA.  It runs from 7 to 10 PM, and although I don't have much control over such things, I will be aiming to play between 8 and 9 PM.  Also, since I've been gone so long, I promise to take a request for at least one of the songs in my (albeit brief) set.  10% of the proceeds go to charity, and I think you get some free swag for donating.  Here's the address:

Caffe Amouri
107 Church St. NE
Vienna, VA 22180

Hope to see you soon - and enjoy the new tune!  :-)  -M

cancellation :-( - March 9, 2011

Hey folks - so sorry to have to do this, but as sick as I've been, and with the schoolwork piling up, I've had to bow out of the New Deal Cafe show scheduled for the weekend after next.  However, I am still going into the studio to do some recording at the end of the month, and will have another new tune for ya soon.  Also, once classes are finished for the semester, I expect to pick up a summer gig here and there.  Thanks so much for all the support and well wishes as I make my way through my second higher education.  I'll see you soon!  :-)  -M

baby it's cold outside - January 27, 2011

It's snowing and school is cancelled, so here I am!  The snow is so much prettier when you only have a few inches to shovel. ;-) And for a bit of news - I'm currently booking some shows for the Spring while school's on break, so check back often in the next couple of weeks for updates.  Just added - March 20th at the New Deal Cafe - details on the calendar page.  See you soon!

happy new year - January 2, 2011

On this anniversary of the passing of my dear Aunt Ellen, I've added the newly recorded "Helen Goodnight," written in her honor, to the music page, available both for streaming and download.  Also, all of the songs, including that one, now have lyrics up, too.  May the new year bring more happiness and less sadness than the last!

more shows! - November 9, 2010

Yes, the rumors are true, I'm back out playing gigs again!  I'll be at Jilly's in Pikesville and back at the Bench in Ellicott City in December.  Check out the calendar page for all the details!

Thank you! And one more chance... - September 19, 2010

Yes, yes, I know I said the New Deal show was the last one.  And before I forget, a big, huge thank you to all of the wonderful folks who came out for that last show!  It's not a show without you.  :-)

I do, however, have one last appearance in 2010 - my yearly trip to the Second Chance Wildlife Center in Gaithersburg, MD.  This place is like an animal rehab center for all the non-domesticated furries (and feathereds) in our area, from raccoons to squirrels to birds to lizards.  They rely exclusively on donor funds, so I always make a point to do a show for them at their Annual Open House.

This year's is Saturday, October 16th, from 12 to 4 PM.  There will be raffles, a cake walk, a chance to tour the facility and meet the critters up close, and of course, live music!  More details on the shows page.  This is an all-ages, outdoor event.  I hope you can make it!  :-)
